KALAIVANI INDIAN CLASSICAL DANCE

Kalaivani School of Indian Classical Arts is directed by Principal and Artistic Director Jayalakshimi Raman. It is the first school of its kind in Western Australia and has presented Perth audiences with annual performances including the Indian dance styles of Bharatha Natyam, Odissi, folk dances and dance dramas including Krishna Leela, Shiva Leela and Gita Govindam. Six of Jayalakshimi’s students have completed their arrangetram (graduation ceremony). Prior to graduation, Jayalakshimi’s students visit Kalakshetra to receive the blessings of her gurus (teachers).
Jayalakshimi has been invited and performed in various regional areas in WA and regularly perform for charity and community events. Jayalakshimi has also taught Carnatic Music to members of the Kairali Club, folk dances to Aboriginal students at Clontarf Aboriginal College, and conducted workshops for the summer school at UWA.
In 2013, Kalaivani Dance School celebrated its 30th anniversary by performing Andal Thiruppavai, a dance drama in Tamil.
